Mold and Fall Allergies

If your body is allergic to the ragweed pollen, then you don’t like fall.  Based on where you reside, fall is the time for ragweed to sprout. This is the time mold spores and pollen are being harbored. Seasonal allergies are not the same. This year you may be allergic, the next year you may not. It is unpredictable. And you also cannot predict how the allergy season will be.

Diagnosis of fall allergies

Just like other types of seasonal allergies, the signs of fall allergies are runny nose, sneezing, water and itchy eyes. These symptoms can affect your daily activities, and compromise your ability to work and perform better, either at school, work or home. Ragweed pollen are the most common causes of allergic symptoms in fall season. The plant grows commonly in Midwest, South and Northeast regions of the United States. The pear for the ragweed pollens begins in mid-august and goes through to October.

Also, the ragweed pollen is known to be the causative agent for the allergy syndrome known as OAS, a condition whereby you may experience itching in your throat and mouth, plus some mild swelling once you eat fresh vegetables and fruits such as banana, melon, cucumber, and zucchini. Apart from the ragweed pollen, pollen from other trees, plants, and grass can cause allergies during fall. Mold is also another major cause of allergic reaction during autumn. Mold can be found inside the homes or outside. The only time you get to eliminate the mold is when you have plenty of snow on the ground.

How to manage fall allergies

To minimize your exposure to the ragweed pollens and other types of fall allergens such as pollen and mold, here are some of the things you can do to protect yourself: Use a dehumidifier to reduce humidity in your home, to ensure humidity in your house is around 50 percent. Talk to a person who is not allergic to get rid of visible mold using a diluted bleach solution. Also, ensure that you clean your house on a regular, especially the humidifiers because they can easily get molds.
